মানিকগঞ্জ, ২৯ সেপ্টেম্বর: মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ প্রতিমন্ত্রী সুলতান সালাউদ্দিন টুকু বলেছেন, সারা দেশের প্রান্তিক জনগণকে অর্থনৈতিকভাবে শক্তিশালী করতে সরকার বিভিন্ন কর্মসূচি নিয়েছে। বকনা বাছুর পেয়ে খামারিরা যথাযথভাবে লালন-পালন করলে ভবিষ্যতে নিজেদের খামার গড়ে তুলতে এবং স্বাবলম্বী হতে পারবেন বলে তিনি আশা প্রকাশ করেন।
মঙ্গলবার দুপুরে মানিকগঞ্জের দৌলতপুর উপজেলা পরিষদ হলরুমে সুফলভোগী খামারিদের মধ্যে বকনা বাছুর ও খাদ্য বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। মানিকগঞ্জ, ঢাকা, মুন্সিগঞ্জ, রাজবাড়ী, ফরিদপুর, মাদারীপুর ও শরীয়তপুর জেলার নদীবিধৌত চরাঞ্চলে ‘সমন্বিত প্রাণিসম্পদ উন্নয়ন প্রকল্প’-এর আওতায় অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়।
প্রতিমন্ত্রী বলেন, “আজ যাদের বকনা বাছুর দেওয়া হচ্ছে, এগুলো ঠিকভাবে লালন-পালন করা হলে একসময় তাঁরা খামারি হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হতে পারবেন। নিজেরাই অর্থনৈতিকভাবে স্বাবলম্বী হবেন। এ লক্ষ্যেই উদ্যোগটি নেওয়া হয়েছে।”
বক্তব্যে তিনি খাল খনন কর্মসূচি ও চরাঞ্চলের মানুষের জীবিকা উন্নয়নের প্রসঙ্গ তুলে ধরেন। তাঁর ভাষ্য অনুযায়ী, শহীদ রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমান মানিকগঞ্জে খাল খনন কর্মসূচির উদ্বোধন করেছিলেন; পাশাপাশি প্রান্তিক মানুষের জন্য মৎস্য খামার গড়ে তোলার উদ্যোগও নেওয়া হয়েছিল। সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার কাজের ধারাবাহিকতায় বর্তমান সরকার প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীর জীবনমান উন্নয়নে কাজ করছে বলেও তিনি মন্তব্য করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে প্রতিমন্ত্রী সমসাময়িক রাজনীতি নিয়েও বক্তব্য দেন এবং নেতাকর্মীদের ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকার আহ্বান জানান।
অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি ছিলেন মানিকগঞ্জ-১ আসনের সংসদ সদস্য এস এ জিন্নাহ কবীর, মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রণালয়ের অতিরিক্ত সচিব মো. ইমাম উদ্দীন কবীর এবং প্রাণিসম্পদ অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক মো. শাহজামান খান। দৌলতপুর উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা সিলভিয়া স্নিগ্ধার সভাপতিত্বে প্রকল্প পরিচালক ডা. মো. আবদুর রহিমসহ মন্ত্রণালয় ও অধিদপ্তরের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তা, জনপ্রতিনিধি, রাজনৈতিক নেতাকর্মী এবং সুফলভোগীরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
অনুষ্ঠান শেষে ২৫ জন সুফলভোগীর মধ্যে বকনা বাছুর ও খাদ্য বিতরণ করেন প্রতিমন্ত্রী।

Manikganj, 29 September: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the government has taken various initiatives to strengthen the economic position of marginalised communities across the country. He expressed hope that, with proper care, the heifer calves distributed to farmers would help them establish their own farms and become financially self-reliant.
He made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon as the chief guest at a distribution ceremony at the Daulatpur Upazila Parishad auditorium in Manikganj. The event was held under the Integrated Livestock Development Project for riverine char areas in Manikganj, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Madaripur and Shariatpur districts.
“If the recipients raise these heifer calves properly, they may one day become established farmers and achieve financial self-reliance. That is the purpose of this initiative,” the state minister said.
Referring to canal excavation and livelihood development in char areas, he said former President Ziaur Rahman had inaugurated a canal excavation programme in Manikganj. He also spoke of an initiative to establish fish farms for marginalised communities. Tuku said the current government was working to improve their living standards, continuing efforts undertaken by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The state minister also commented on contemporary politics and urged party members to remain united.
Manikganj-1 MP S A Jinnah Kabir, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md Imam Uddin Kabir, and Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahjahan Khan attended as special guests.
The programme was chaired by Daulatpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Silvia Snigdha. Project Director Dr Md Abdur Rahim, senior officials of the ministry and the Department of Livestock Services, public representatives, political leaders and activists, and beneficiaries were also present.
At the end of the programme, the state minister distributed heifer calves and feed to 25 beneficiaries.
