তাঁর বক্তব্য অনুযায়ী, সুস্থ মুরগি, নিরাপদ খাদ্য এবং টেকসই উৎপাদন—এই তিনটি লক্ষ্যকে একসঙ্গে সামনে রাখতে হবে। শুধু উৎপাদনের পরিমাণ বাড়ালেই কাঙ্ক্ষিত সাফল্য আসবে না; উৎপাদন ব্যবস্থার স্বাস্থ্যগত ভিত্তিও শক্ত করতে হবে।

কক্সবাজারের এই আয়োজনে উপস্থিত থেকে আমার কাছে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মনে হয়েছে অন্ত্রের স্বাস্থ্যকে খামারের সামগ্রিক ব্যবস্থাপনার কেন্দ্রে আনার বিষয়টি। খামারির কাছে নতুন পণ্য পৌঁছানোর পাশাপাশি এর উদ্দেশ্য, ব্যবহার এবং প্রত্যাশিত ভূমিকা সম্পর্কে পরিষ্কার ধারণা পৌঁছানোও জরুরি।

Seminar highlights integrated farm management to reduce the risk of necrotic enteritis and reliance on antibiotics

Even with good feed, poultry farms sometimes struggle to achieve the expected growth. Feed costs rise on some farms, while intestinal problems weaken birds on others. The relationship between these challenges and gut health—and the importance of managing it—was a central topic at a product launch and technical seminar in Cox’s Bazar.

Attending the event organised by SKL Animal Health Co., Ltd. on September 16, 2026, I found one message particularly clear: gut health cannot be viewed in isolation. Healthy intestines and productive flocks depend on coordinated attention to feed, water, disease prevention and daily farm management.

With this objective, SKL Animal Health has introduced Ecobiol® Soluble Plus, a probiotic product from the German company Evonik, to the Bangladesh market. The two-day programme presented the product’s features and potential role while also discussing necrotic enteritis and ways to reduce dependence on antibiotics.

A Commitment to Quality Products and Technical Services

The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address from Abu Sayeed, Managing Director of SKL Animal Health Co., Ltd.

He said the company had been working for the development of the livestock sector and the welfare of farmers for the past twelve years. Delivering quality products and necessary technical services to farmers in both urban centres and remote areas remains one of its priorities.

According to his remarks, SKL Animal Health imports products from countries including South Korea, Germany, China and Jordan, taking farmers’ needs and modern production requirements into account. Its technical and marketing officers help deliver these products and services to people working in the livestock sector.

Abu Sayeed explained that introducing Evonik’s Ecobiol® Soluble Plus to Bangladeshi poultry farmers was part of this continuing effort. The product was presented as a potential probiotic solution to support gut health management and efforts to reduce antibiotic use.

Healthy Intestines as a Foundation for Production

During the technical session, Dr. Sanjit Chakraborty, Managing Director of Evonik Bangladesh, used a multimedia presentation to explain the product’s features, applications and potential contribution to gut health management.

His discussion focused on the relationship between intestinal health, the overall condition of birds, productivity and farm economics. He emphasised that maintaining healthy intestines is essential in poultry production. Appropriate probiotics, alongside effective farm management, may help address the risk of intestinal problems such as necrotic enteritis.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of maintaining a balanced population of beneficial intestinal microorganisms and controlling the proliferation of harmful bacteria. To reduce reliance on antibiotics and move towards more sustainable production, gut health management needs to become part of routine farm practice.

What Was Presented About Ecobiol® Soluble Plus

In the technical presentation, Ecobiol® Soluble Plus was introduced as a probiotic-based gut flora stabiliser, intended to help maintain a balanced intestinal microbial community.

The presentation identified Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 as its active bacterial component. Its application was explained in terms of supporting the balance of beneficial microorganisms in the poultry gut.

Speakers discussed the product’s potential contribution to protecting gut health and reducing the risk of necrotic enteritis. However, the central message was integrated management: probiotic use should be considered alongside feed quality, water management, hygiene and disease prevention.

An Integrated Approach to Necrotic Enteritis

Dr. Sanjit Chakraborty described necrotic enteritis as an important challenge for the poultry industry. He stressed that reducing its risk requires more than reliance on treatment; overall farm management must also be effective.

He highlighted the coordinated application of biosecurity measures, feed and water management, and a planned gut health programme.

For farmers, the practical message was that using a product must be accompanied by consistent daily management. Identifying weaknesses in farm practices and improving the production process as a whole should remain the objective when addressing intestinal health problems.

Reducing Dependence on Antibiotics

Reducing dependence on antibiotics was another major topic of the seminar. Dr. Sanjit Chakraborty called for greater attention to gut health management as part of this effort.

His remarks brought together three goals: healthy birds, safe food and sustainable production. Increasing production volume alone is insufficient; the health foundations of the production system must also be strengthened.

Although the potential role of probiotics was presented, they should not be regarded as a substitute for treatment in every disease situation. The integrated approach discussed at the seminar supports combining preventive programmes with appropriate diagnosis and veterinary advice.

Participation by Distributors and Field Officers

More than fifty distributors, marketing officers and senior officials of SKL Animal Health participated in the two-day programme. Dr. Asaduzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of Farmcare Bangladesh, was also present, along with other representatives from the sector.

Combining the product launch with technical discussions allowed participants to learn about both the product and the broader principles of gut health management. These discussions were particularly relevant to officers who work directly with farmers.

Alongside the technical sessions, the programme included other activities for participants. A raffle draw and cultural programme marked the conclusion of the two-day event.

Correct Application Matters Alongside Product Availability

From my attendance at the Cox’s Bazar programme, the most significant point was the need to place gut health at the centre of overall farm management. Introducing a new product is only one part of the process. Farmers also need a clear understanding of its purpose, application and expected role.

The introduction of Ecobiol® Soluble Plus adds a new option to the discussion on probiotic use in Bangladesh’s poultry sector. Turning the potential presented at the event into practical benefits for farmers will require correct application, effective technical support and evaluation of results under farm conditions.

The goals of healthy intestines, healthy birds and sustainable production will become meaningful when their benefits are reflected in farmers’ production results and financial returns.
