পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মন্ত্রী আবদুল আউয়াল মিন্টুর সঙ্গে সৌজন্য সাক্ষাৎ করেছেন বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত মার্কিন রাষ্ট্রদূত ব্রেন্ট টি. ক্রিস্টেনসেন।
আজ রোববার (১২ এপ্রিল) দুপুরে মন্ত্রীর দপ্তরে উভয়ের এই সাক্ষাৎ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এ সাক্ষাৎকালে তারা পারস্পরিক স্বার্থসংশ্লিষ্ট বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে আলোচনা করেন। এ সময় পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন প্রতিমন্ত্রী শেখ ফরিদুল ইসলাম উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
সাক্ষাতে পরিবেশ মন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের বন সংরক্ষণ ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের অভিযোজন মোকাবেলায় বিভিন্ন কার্যক্রমকে আরও শক্তিশালী করতে আন্তর্জাতিক সহযোগিতার প্রয়োজনীয়তার কথা তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বিশেষ করে বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা, পানি দূষণ, বায়ু দূষণ রোধে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সহযোগিতা কামনা করেন। এ ক্ষেত্রে প্রযুক্তিগত সহায়তা, প্রশিক্ষণ কার্যক্রম, সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি এবং বিনিয়োগের ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করা হয়।
মার্কিন রাষ্ট্রদূত ব্রেন্ট টি. ক্রিস্টেনসেন, দুই দেশের পারস্পরিক স্বার্থ সংশ্লিষ্ট বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে সমন্বিত উদ্যোগ গ্রহণের ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। এছাড়াও তিনি বন সংরক্ষণ, বন্যপ্রাণী পাচার রোধে উভয় দেশের পারস্পরিক সহযোগিতা বৃদ্ধির ওপর জোর দেন।
বৈঠকে উভয় পক্ষ টেকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জন, জীববৈচিত্র্য সংরক্ষণ, জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা বৃদ্ধি এবং সবুজ অর্থনীতি গড়ে তুলতে যৌথভাবে কাজ করার প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করেন।
বৈঠকে অন্যান্যের মধ্যে পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব, অতিরিক্ত সচিব (পরিবেশ), অতিরিক্ত সচিব (পরিবেশ দূষণ নিয়ন্ত্রণ ও আইন অনুবিভাগ) এবং মার্কিন দূতাবাসের রাজনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক বিষয়ক কাউন্সিলর উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
Environment Minister Holds Talks with U.S. Ambassador.
Dhaka, 12 April 2026:
The Honourable Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the United States to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen today (Sunday, 12 April) at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in constructive discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest. The Honourable State Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam MP was also present.
The Honourable Minister emphasized the importance of enhanced international cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts in forest conservation and climate change adaptation. He underscored the need for collaboration with the United States in key areas such as waste management, water pollution control, and air quality improvement. Particular importance was placed on technical assistance, capacity-building initiatives, training programs, and increased investment.
U.S. Ambassador Christensen highlighted the importance of coordinated initiatives addressing shared priorities. He also stressed strengthening bilateral cooperation in forest conservation and in combating wildlife trafficking.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working jointly towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, conserving biodiversity, enhancing climate resilience and promoting a green economy.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Additional Secretaries (Environment), Additional Secretaries (Environment Pollution Control and Legal Affairs), and officials from the U.S. Embassy including the Political and Economic Counselor.
