দেশীয় এলএসডি ভ্যাকসিনে সুরক্ষিত হবে গবাদিপশু, কমবে খামারিদের ক্ষতি: মন্ত্রী।।

কুমিল্লা, ৪ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৬: মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ এবং কৃষিমন্ত্রী মোহাম্মদ আমিন উর রশিদ বলেছেন, দেশীয় বিজ্ঞানীদের উদ্ভাবিত লাম্পি স্কিন ডিজিজ (এলএসডি) ভ্যাকসিন গবাদিপশুর এ ক্ষতিকর রোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে। দেশে উৎপাদিত ভ্যাকসিন বাজারজাত হলে খামারিদের টিকাদান ব্যয় কমবে, সহজলভ্যতা বাড়বে এবং প্রাণিসম্পদ খাত আরও টেকসই হবে।

শুক্রবার কুমিল্লার আদর্শ সদর উপজেলার রাইচু ঈদগাহ মাঠে বাংলাদেশ প্রাণিসম্পদ গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউটের (বিএলআরআই) উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত এলএসডি ও গোটপক্স ভ্যাকসিনেশন ক্যাম্পেইন এবং টিকাদান কার্যক্রমের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন।

মন্ত্রী বলেন, লাম্পি স্কিন ডিজিজ ছড়িয়ে পড়লে গবাদিপশুর স্বাস্থ্য ও উৎপাদনশীলতা মারাত্মকভাবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। এতে খামারিদের বড় ধরনের আর্থিক লোকসানের মুখে পড়তে হয়। একটি খামারে রোগটি দেখা দিলে দ্রুত অন্য পশুর মধ্যেও ছড়িয়ে পড়তে পারে। তাই রোগ দেখা দেওয়ার পর চিকিৎসার চেয়ে প্রতিরোধমূলক ব্যবস্থা এবং সময়মতো টিকাদানের ওপর সর্বাধিক গুরুত্ব দিতে হবে।

তিনি বলেন, দেশে প্রতিবছর প্রায় আড়াই কোটি ডোজ এলএসডি ভ্যাকসিন প্রয়োজন। এতদিন এ চাহিদা পূরণে বিদেশ থেকে আমদানি করা ভ্যাকসিনের ওপর নির্ভর করতে হতো। দেশে ভ্যাকসিন উদ্ভাবন ও উৎপাদনের উদ্যোগ সফলভাবে বাস্তবায়িত হলে আমদানিনির্ভরতা কমার পাশাপাশি খামারিরা তুলনামূলক কম খরচে প্রয়োজনীয় টিকা পাবেন।

খামারিদের উদ্দেশে মন্ত্রী বলেন, গবাদিপশুকে সুস্থ ও উৎপাদনশীল রাখতে নিয়মিত টিকাদান অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। নির্ধারিত সময় অনুযায়ী এলএসডির টিকা দিতে হবে। পাশাপাশি রোগাক্রান্ত পশুকে দ্রুত আলাদা রাখা, খামার পরিচ্ছন্ন রাখা এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট প্রাণিসম্পদ কর্মকর্তার পরামর্শ গ্রহণ করতে হবে।

উচ্চ প্রোটিনের ঘাসে কমবে খাদ্য ব্যয়

গবাদিপশুর খাদ্য ব্যয় কমাতে বিএলআরআই উদ্ভাবিত উচ্চ পুষ্টিমানসম্পন্ন ঘাস চাষের ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন মন্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন, নতুন উদ্ভাবিত ঘাসের জাতটিতে প্রায় ১৮ শতাংশ প্রোটিন রয়েছে। এটি চাষের মাধ্যমে খামারিরা কম খরচে উন্নতমানের পশুখাদ্য উৎপাদন করতে পারবেন। একই সঙ্গে ব্যয়বহুল দানাদার খাদ্যের ওপর নির্ভরতাও কমবে।

ব্ল্যাক বেঙ্গল ছাগল সম্প্রসারণে নতুন কর্মসূচি

দেশের ঐতিহ্যবাহী ব্ল্যাক বেঙ্গল ছাগল সংরক্ষণ ও সম্প্রসারণে সরকার নতুন কর্মসূচি গ্রহণ করছে বলেও জানান মন্ত্রী। এ কর্মসূচির আওতায় ইউনিয়নভিত্তিক উদ্যোক্তা তৈরি, প্রয়োজনীয় প্রশিক্ষণ, উন্নত জাতের ছাগল সরবরাহ এবং উৎপাদিত ছাগল ও ছাগলজাত পণ্য বিপণনে সহায়তা দেওয়া হবে। নারী ও যুব উদ্যোক্তাদের এ কর্মসূচিতে অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়া হবে।

মন্ত্রী বলেন, ব্ল্যাক বেঙ্গল ছাগল বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম মূল্যবান প্রাণিসম্পদ। এ জাতের ছাগলের মাংস ও চামড়ার আন্তর্জাতিক বাজার রয়েছে। পরিকল্পিত সম্প্রসারণ, জাত সংরক্ষণ এবং বৈজ্ঞানিক ব্যবস্থাপনার মাধ্যমে এ খাত গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতি শক্তিশালী করা, নতুন কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি এবং রপ্তানি আয় বৃদ্ধিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রাখতে পারে।

বিএলআরআইয়ের মহাপরিচালক ড. শাকিলা ফারুকের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য দেন প্রাণিসম্পদ অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক মো. শাহজামান খান।

এ সময় প্রাণিসম্পদ অধিদপ্তর ও বিএলআরআইয়ের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারা, আদর্শ সদর উপজেলা বিএনপির সভাপতি রেজাউল কাইয়ুম, সাধারণ সম্পাদক শফিউল আলম রায়হান, জেলা শ্রমিক দলের সভাপতি তাজুল ইসলামসহ বিএনপি ও এর অঙ্গসংগঠনের নেতৃবৃন্দ এবং বিপুলসংখ্যক প্রাণিসম্পদ খামারি উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

বাংলাদেশে লাম্পি স্কিন ডিজিজ ও গোটপক্সের প্রাদুর্ভাব বিবেচনায় প্রাণিসম্পদ অধিদপ্তরের সার্বিক সহযোগিতায় এ ক্যাম্পেইন পরিচালিত হচ্ছে। এর আওতায় আদর্শ সদর উপজেলার গবাদিপশুকে দুই হাজার ডোজ এলএসডি ভ্যাকসিন এবং ১০০ ডোজ গোটপক্স ভ্যাকসিন দেওয়ার কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়েছে।

Locally Developed LSD Vaccine to Protect Livestock and Reduce Farmers’ Losses: Minister

Cumilla, September 4, 2026: Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has said that the locally developed vaccine against Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) will play an important role in controlling the highly damaging livestock disease.

He said commercial production and marketing of the vaccine would reduce vaccination costs for farmers, improve availability, decrease dependence on imports and help make the livestock sector more sustainable.

The minister made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating an LSD and goatpox vaccination campaign at the Raichu Eidgah ground in Cumilla’s Adarsha Sadar Upazila. The Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) organised the programme to administer the LSD and goatpox vaccines developed by the institute.

The minister said Lumpy Skin Disease severely affects the health and productivity of cattle, causing substantial financial losses to farmers. Once the disease appears on a farm, it can spread rapidly to other animals. Therefore, preventive measures and timely vaccination must receive the highest priority.

He said Bangladesh requires approximately 25 million doses of LSD vaccine every year. Until now, the country has largely depended on imported vaccines to meet this demand. Successful domestic production and distribution of the vaccine would reduce import dependence and enable farmers to access the vaccine at a comparatively lower cost.

Addressing livestock farmers, the minister emphasised that regular vaccination is essential to keep animals healthy and productive. Cattle should be vaccinated against LSD according to the recommended schedule. Farmers should also isolate infected animals immediately, maintain proper farm hygiene and seek advice from livestock officials.

High-Protein Grass to Reduce Feed Costs

The minister also stressed the cultivation of high-nutrition fodder grass developed by BLRI to reduce livestock feeding costs.

He said the newly developed grass variety contains approximately 18 per cent protein. By cultivating it, farmers would be able to produce quality livestock feed at a lower cost while reducing their dependence on expensive concentrate feed.

New Programme to Expand Black Bengal Goat Farming

The government is also introducing a new programme to conserve and expand Bangladesh’s traditional Black Bengal goat breed, the minister said.

Under the programme, entrepreneurs will be developed at the union level and provided with training, improved goats and marketing support. Women and young entrepreneurs will receive priority.

The minister described the Black Bengal goat as one of Bangladesh’s most valuable livestock resources, noting that its meat and hide have demand in international markets.

He said planned expansion, breed conservation and scientific farm management could enable the sector to make a significant contribution to the rural economy, employment generation and increased export earnings.

BLRI Director General Dr Shakila Faruk presided over the event, while Department of Livestock Services Director General Md Shahjaman Khan attended as a special guest.

Senior officials from the Department of Livestock Services and BLRI were present at the programme. Adarsha Sadar Upazila BNP President Rezaul Kaiyum, General Secretary Shafiul Alam Raihan, District Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Tajul Islam, leaders of the BNP and its affiliated organisations, and a large number of livestock farmers also attended.

Considering the overall prevalence of Lumpy Skin Disease and goatpox in Bangladesh, the campaign is being implemented with the support of the Department of Livestock Services. Under the initiative, the administration of 2,000 doses of the LSD vaccine and 100 doses of the goatpox vaccine to livestock in the upazila has begun.
