ঢাকা, শনিবার, ৪ আশ্বিন (১৯ সেপ্টেম্বর): দেশীয় প্রজাতির মাছ সংরক্ষণ ও উৎপাদন বাড়াতে সরকার সারাদেশে পোনামাছ অবমুক্তকরণ কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করছে বলে জানিয়েছেন মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ প্রতিমন্ত্রী সুলতান সালাউদ্দিন টুকু এমপি।
শনিবার বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় চিড়িয়াখানা লেকে পোনামাছ অবমুক্তকরণ অনুষ্ঠান শেষে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। ২০২৬–২৭ অর্থবছরে ঢাকা মহানগরীর বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রতিষ্ঠানের জলাশয়ে পোনামাছ অবমুক্তকরণ কর্মসূচির অংশ হিসেবে মৎস্য অধিদপ্তর এ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে।
প্রতিমন্ত্রী বলেন, জাতীয় মৎস্য পক্ষ উপলক্ষে কিশোরগঞ্জ থেকে প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান এ কর্মসূচির উদ্বোধন করেছেন। এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলা ও উপজেলায় স্থানীয় সংসদ সদস্য, জনপ্রতিনিধি এবং মৎস্য বিভাগের কর্মকর্তাদের উপস্থিতিতে জলাশয়ে মাছের পোনা অবমুক্ত করা হচ্ছে।
তিনি বলেন, “মাছের উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি এবং দেশীয় প্রজাতির মাছ টিকিয়ে রাখাই সরকারের মূল লক্ষ্য। গণমাধ্যমের মাধ্যমে দেশের মানুষও এসব কার্যক্রম সম্পর্কে জানতে পারছেন।”
দেশে মাছের চাহিদা ও উৎপাদন পরিস্থিতি প্রসঙ্গে প্রতিমন্ত্রী বলেন, জনসংখ্যা বাড়লেও বর্তমানে মাছের উল্লেখযোগ্য কোনো ঘাটতি নেই। বিশেষ করে মিঠাপানির মাছের উৎপাদন ধারাবাহিকভাবে বাড়ছে। চাষির সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির পাশাপাশি মানুষের চাহিদা অনুযায়ী উৎপাদন আরও বাড়ানোর প্রচেষ্টাও অব্যাহত রয়েছে।
কৃষক কার্ড, সহজ ঋণ ও প্রণোদনার উদ্যোগ
প্রান্তিক পর্যায়ের মৎস্য খামারিদের উৎপাদনে উৎসাহিত করতে সরকার বিভিন্ন ধরনের সহায়তা দিচ্ছে উল্লেখ করে সুলতান সালাউদ্দিন টুকু বলেন, মৎস্য খামারিদের কৃষক কার্ডের আওতায় এনে বিভিন্ন সুবিধা দেওয়া হবে। তাঁদের জন্য সহজ শর্তে ঋণ ও সরকারি প্রণোদনা দেওয়ার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হচ্ছে। এসব পদক্ষেপ বাস্তবায়িত হলে মাছের উৎপাদন বাড়ার পাশাপাশি গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতিও আরও শক্তিশালী হবে।
নিরাপদ মাছ উৎপাদনে প্রশিক্ষণ ও নজরদারি
মাছের খাদ্য ও অ্যান্টিবায়োটিক ব্যবহারের বিষয়ে সাংবাদিকদের এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে প্রতিমন্ত্রী বলেন, নিরাপদ মাছ উৎপাদনে খামারিদের সচেতনতা বাড়ানো হচ্ছে। অপ্রয়োজনীয় অ্যান্টিবায়োটিকের ব্যবহার বন্ধে নিয়মিত প্রশিক্ষণ ও প্রয়োজনীয় পরামর্শ দেওয়া হচ্ছে। মাঠপর্যায়ের কর্মকর্তারা আধুনিক ও বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতিতে মাছ চাষে খামারিদের সহায়তা করছেন। ফলে উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধির পাশাপাশি অপচয় ও উৎপাদন ব্যয় কমানো সম্ভব হচ্ছে।
মানসম্মত মাছের খাদ্য নিশ্চিত করতে সরকার কঠোর নজরদারি চালাচ্ছে জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, নিম্নমানের ফিড উৎপাদন ও বাজারজাতকরণ ঠেকাতে নিয়মিত মোবাইল কোর্ট পরিচালনা করা হচ্ছে। খামারিরা যেন মানহীন খাদ্য ব্যবহার না করেন এবং ভোক্তারা যেন নিরাপদ মাছ পান—সে লক্ষ্যে তদারকি আরও জোরদার করা হয়েছে।
চিড়িয়াখানার লেকে ২৫০ কেজি পোনা অবমুক্ত
দেশীয় মাছের উৎপাদন ও জলজ জীববৈচিত্র্য বাড়ানোর লক্ষ্যে বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় চিড়িয়াখানার লেকে মোট ২৫০ কেজি পোনামাছ অবমুক্ত করা হয়। এর মধ্যে ছিল ১০০ কেজি রুই, ৭৫ কেজি কাতলা এবং ৭৫ কেজি কালিবাউস। পোনাগুলোর আকার ছিল ১০ থেকে ১৫ সেন্টিমিটার।
সব মিলিয়ে প্রায় ২ হাজার ৫৭৫টি পোনা অবমুক্ত করা হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে রুই প্রায় ১ হাজার ১০০টি, কাতলা প্রায় ৬০০টি এবং কালিবাউস প্রায় ৮৭৫টি।
ঢাকা জেলা মৎস্য কর্মকর্তার কার্যালয়ের বাস্তবায়নে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সংরক্ষিত মহিলা আসনের সংসদ সদস্য ফেরদৌসী আহমেদ, প্রাণিসম্পদ অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক মো. শাহজামান খান, মৎস্য অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক ড. মো. খালেদ কনক, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় চিড়িয়াখানার পরিচালক ডা. মো. শাহিনুর আলম, মৎস্য অধিদপ্তরের ঢাকা বিভাগের পরিচালক মো. আহসান হাসিব খান, কেন্দ্রীয় মুরগি খামারের পরিচালক জিনাত সুলতানা, চিড়িয়াখানার কিউরেটর মো. হাবিবুর রহমান এবং জেলা মৎস্য কর্মকর্তা মো. রোকনুজ্জামানসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তারা।
Fingerlings Being Released Nationwide to Boost Native Fish Production: State Minister
Dhaka, Saturday, 4 Ashwin (19 September): The government is conducting a nationwide fingerling release programme to conserve native fish species and increase fish production, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, MP, has said.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday after a fingerling release event at the lake of the Bangladesh National Zoo. The Department of Fisheries organised the event as part of its programme to release fingerlings into water bodies at various important institutions across Dhaka metropolitan area during the 2026–27 fiscal year.
The state minister said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the programme in Kishoreganj on the occasion of National Fisheries Fortnight. As part of the continuing initiative, fish fingerlings are now being released into water bodies in different districts and upazilas in the presence of local members of parliament, public representatives and fisheries officials.
“Increasing fish production and ensuring the survival of native fish species are the government’s principal objectives. People across the country are also learning about these activities through the media,” he said.
Referring to the country’s fish demand and production situation, the state minister said that despite population growth, Bangladesh currently faces no significant shortage of fish. Freshwater fish production, in particular, has continued to rise. Alongside the growing number of fish farmers, efforts are under way to increase production in line with consumer demand.
Farmer Cards, Easy Loans and Incentives
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the government is providing various forms of assistance to encourage small-scale fish farmers to increase production. Fish farmers will be brought under the farmer card programme, enabling them to access a range of benefits.
Initiatives are also being taken to provide farmers with loans on easy terms and various government incentives. Once implemented, these measures are expected to increase fish production and further strengthen the rural economy.
Training and Monitoring for Safe Fish Production
Responding to a question about fish feed and antibiotic use, the state minister said efforts are being made to raise awareness among farmers about safe fish production. Farmers are receiving regular training and guidance to prevent the unnecessary use of antibiotics.
Field-level officials are also advising fish farmers on modern and scientific farming methods. These measures are helping to increase production while reducing waste and production costs.
He said the government is maintaining strict surveillance to ensure the availability of quality fish feed. Mobile courts are being conducted regularly to prevent the production and marketing of substandard feed. Monitoring has been intensified so that farmers do not use poor-quality feed and consumers have access to safe fish.
250 Kilograms of Fingerlings Released into Zoo Lake
A total of 250 kilograms of fish fingerlings were released into the Bangladesh National Zoo lake to boost native fish production and aquatic biodiversity. These included 100 kilograms of rohu, 75 kilograms of catla and 75 kilograms of kalibaush. The fingerlings measured between 10 and 15 centimetres in length.
Approximately 2,575 fingerlings were released in total, comprising around 1,100 rohu, 600 catla and 875 kalibaush.
The programme, implemented by the Office of the Dhaka District Fisheries Officer, was attended by Ferdousi Ahmed, member of parliament from a reserved women’s seat; Md Shahjahan Khan, director general of the Department of Livestock Services; Dr Md Khaled Konok, director general of the Department of Fisheries; Dr Md Shahinur Alam, director of the Bangladesh National Zoo; Md Ahsan Hasib Khan, director of the Department of Fisheries’ Dhaka Division; Zeenat Sultana, director of the Central Poultry Farm; Md Habibur Rahman, curator of the zoo; and Md Rokonuzzaman, district fisheries officer, along with other officials concerned.
